How To Prepare For A Fall Mini Session

Not familiar with the Mini Session? Let me introduce you!

They’re just what they sound like, a miniature photography session and photo package. Perfect for ANYONE and any kind of session I typically offer such as Family, Couples, Maternity and for things such as special occasions like Senior portraits, holiday cards, engagement or baby announcements, just the kiddos or just for fun!

Let’s talk timing. Unlike my full sessions which shoot for an hour, mini sessions are only 20 minutes. That’s plenty of time to get a great variety of images with beautiful backgrounds, perfect poses, and cute candids. Think ‘fast-paced and fun’! And, a 20 minute shoot is especially ideal if you have a wiggly or cranky kiddo, or maybe even a partner who’s not that into doing a photography session.

I choose a specific date (or two) to offer Mini Sessions on and clients can book their 20-min sessions only on that/those days.

Location is key! Mini Session days are centered around one special location chosen by me. If you’re looking for stylized, themed set-ups, I’m not your gal. I do lifestyle portraits where it’s just you, your loves and all the options that Mother Nature has to offer (but see below for BYOP ideas.) For Fall Minis, I’ll take you out into nature where the warm autumn colors in fields and on wooded paths create an awesome backdrop for your photos.

The perfect little photo package. Shorter session, less photos, about half the cost! For some people less is more! Sometimes you don’t want (or need) a ton of new photos. You may simply want a few to freshen up your family album, to place around the house, send out on Christmas Cards, or to capture the moment in time. Mini Sessions offer 25 images from your photo shoot to choose from. Ten (10) are included in your final package, but you have options to buy additional singles or the entire album!

Now, let’s get you prepared for your Fall Mini Session:

What to wear?

Cute autumn outfits ideas:

  • Sweaters, flannels, plaids, denim, flowing fall maxi dress, peasant blouse, boho textures and patterns, suede, knitted cardigan, layers such as a mini skirt over tights or a vest over a long-sleeve.

  • Accessories like a lightweight scarf, stiff or floppy brimmed hat, boots, knitted or crocheted headband, your favorite fall jewelry.

  • For dogs, a bow tie, bandana or scarf, plus neutral colored collar and leash.

Best colors to wear for outdoor autumn portraits:

  • Neutral earth tones like creams, tan, gray, browns, and mid-tone/blush pinks.

  • Jewel tones like rich reds, deep purples, dark blues and greens, teal, turquoise and peacock.

  • Warm autumn colors like butterscotch yellow, amber orange or scarlet red.

  • AVOID black, bright white, and bold bright summer colors.

BYOP - Bring Your Own Props (if that’s your thing and they’re easy to transport)

Simple Seasonal Prop Ideas:

  • Basket of apples

  • Carved pumpkins

  • Wooden sign (for announcements)

  • Wagon to pull the kids in

  • Cute neutral, warm-colored or plaid blanket

How does a Mini Session go?

Come to the location 10 mins early, get yourself and the others ready and familiar with the surroundings. I’ll meet you where we planned and start your session.

Before you get there, I’ll have already mapped out the best spots to photograph you in so that during your shoot all the focus goes on helping you create fun, memorable moments that’ll look natural on camera!

Twenty minutes later your partner and/or kiddos will be saying “that was more fun than I thought it would be” and a few weeks later you’ll have amazing photos to cherish forever!

Mini Sessions are a limited offer, only a few times a year, so check them out here for upcoming dates and locations.
